TBD Race Calendar: May 2025

As the recent Mengoni Grand Prix highlighted, the slog of early season racing in winter weather is finally behind us. As the calendar ticks over to May there is a plethora of warm(er) weather racing to look forward to. Here is a look at some of the upcoming events featured on the TBD Race Calendar. Wherever possible the calendar includes the relevant Bikereg links - just click through to the event description.

  • May 3-4: May starts with a bang at the last β€œlocal” road race on the calendar - the Bear Mountain Classic at Harriman State Park. We have raced at Bear Mountain for the better part of two decades. It’s a challenging course that can feature its fair share of chaotic weather, but especially for racers that prefer a bit of climbing it is not to be missed.

    • For less vertically inclined riders, there is the Sunshine Criterium on Saturday in Rhode Island followed by the 37th Annual Daniel Harwi race in Pennsylvania on Saturday. And for the most vertically inclined riders, Skylands Cycling is hosting the Hill Point Hill Climb on Saturday.

    • On the MTB side there are a few events to choose from within driving distance of NYC, including an XTERRA MTB and gravel event as well as the 12 hours of Port Jervis on Long Island.

    • And last but not least, on the TRACK the 6 Days of Kissena make up weather date is Sunday May 4th. 6 Days of Kissena is an awesome series and we highly suggest checking it out. The vibes are usually immaculate.

  • May 10-11: May 10th is a busy Saturday of racing, with two separate local races to choose from. For CRCA members, the CRCA Club Series continues - if you’re not currently a member we recently published a guide for joining the Club. For non-CRCA members, consider checking out the Coney Island Criterium instead.

    • After bad weather thwarted our first TBD Community Rides of the season, we’ll be hosting our next TBD Community Ride on Saturday May 10th after the CRCA Club Race. Stay tuned to our Instagram account for additional details as the weekend approaches: To Be Determined (@tobedetermined.cc)

    • Further afield, there is also Battenkill on Saturday. This event has gone through many iterations over the past decade, but it remains a beautiful stretch of New York to ride bikes so may be worth checking out.

  • May 17-11: the third weekend is May is pretty low key from an road racing event perspective, but for anyone who enjoys gravel riding we recommend checking out Farmers Daughter in the Hudson Valley. This event has been a prominent feature on our team’s calendar for many years running and we highly recommend checking it out.

    • For those willing to head south, the Wilmington Grand Prix is a longstanding an excellent event that can be done as a day trip, with the traditional criterium now bracketed by a Hill Climb and Grand Fondo if you want to make a full weekend out of it. The criterium takes place on a unique and challenging course so this is one not to be missed for crit racers.

    • On the MTB side there is also an event hosted by Brands Cycle at Stillwell.

  • May 24-25: Memorial Day weekend in the ti-state area means one thing: the Tour of Somerville, one of the longest standing bike races in the country. But there are also some further afield options to consider as well like the Apple Valley Criterium and the very well regarded Easton Twilight Criterium. In fact, combining Plainfield on Saturday, Easton on Sunday, and Somerville on Monday makes for one heck of a long weekend of racing.

    • We’re hoping that Tuesday May 27 is in fact the kick off for weekday racing at Floyd Bennett Field (FBF). This is perhaps our favorite local racing series and we highly recommend it for anyone that can get out of work early enough to head down to FBF. Kudos to anyone who turns Plainfield-Easton-Somerville-FBF into a 4 day stretch of racing.

    • Unfortunately Killington Stage Race has been cancelled. RIP to another great East Coast Stage Race (maybe it will return in the future?)

  • May 31-June 1: the month for local racing comes to an end at the CRCA Dave Jordan Central Park Classic which in recent times has been the most prominent Central Park race on the calendar. As an open race, this event is open to non-CRCA members.

    • On the out of town front, the Armed Forces Capital Cup overlaps with the DJCPC. We’ll have a few riders making the trip to DC for Armed Forces, but note that event runs a limited field structure focused on Elite racers so race options may be limited.

If we are missing any races from the calendar just drop us a note using the contact form on the TBD Race Calendar page. We want to make sure the calendar is as comprehensive as possible.
