TBD Race Calendar: August 2018

Despite our thoughts starting to turn to some R&R before the start of cyclocross season in a few short weeks, August is actually another very busy month of road racing on the TBD Race Calendar. In fact there are local road race options every weekend of the month including four club races in the next five weeks for Century Road Club Association members. A brief look at some of our favorites follows below but as always head over to the calendar page for the complete listing of events. 

• This upcoming weekend is effectively quadruple booked, which unfortunately means registration numbers will be spread thin across the various options. We have already pointed riders toward the Tour of Millersburg stage race but for those looking to stay local there is a CRCA Club race this weekend in Central Park and a Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup race in Prospect Park. Sadly they're both on the same day so there will be no double header weekend of racing in NYC Parks. On top of that there is also the Reading Radsport Festival and the Jersey Devil State Road Race Championship this weekend. So pick your poison when it comes to bike racing this weekend - there is plenty to choose from.

• Weekend #2 in August will see most of the TBD squad head north to the Cycle-Smart Cyclocross Camp, an event we very much appreciated last year. We're looking forward to returning with even greater numbers this year though for those not into cyclocross or just looking to race there is the Castelli Series in Prospect Park, another H2H Mountain Bike event and the Kissena International Track Omnium to choose from.

• August 18-19 once again features a Central Park / Prospect Park double header on Saturday though several of the TBD racers will be setting aside their skinny tires to head up the coast to D2R2 - The Deerfield Dirt Road Randonnee. For more on this gravel/dirt/off-road adventure check out our write-up from last year. Sunday also features some out of town race options though the Syracuse Road Race Classic involves a bit of a drive for NYC based racers.

• The final weekend of the month sees road racing start to wind down after several busy months as CRCA hosts the second to last Club Race of the year in Central Park and some local women team up to host a two day WTF introduction to cyclocross clinic in the city. The following weekend will see the official start of cyclocross season on the East Coast and effectively the end of road races in New York City, though one of the FBF Series may carry on subject to availability of race officials.
