Celebrating a Season of NYC Bike Racing
It is difficult to quantify how much goes into a season of bike racing in New York City. For the CRCA Board there are endless hours of planning and paperwork. For the race directors there is all of the stress of watching registration, balancing budgets, and executing events that we wrote about in the race director diaries. For race staff there are a string of brutally early mornings to insure that races happen. Which is to say nothing of the training done by racers, from the dead of winter to the heat of summer. And yet somehow and someway, the community pulled off another special year of racing bikes in New York City.
2019 featured some special memories, including a record breaking Grant’s Tomb, the non-stop rain of Orchard Beach, and everything in between. Topping it off, To Be Determined f/b Metropolitan Dental Care walked away from the season with two of the biggest awards on offer: the Jim Boyd Cup for Steph and the Team Cup for the entire squad. And so it was extra special celebrating the year that was with friends at the annual CRCA End of Season Party. A big thank you to James Nord of Fohr for hosting and insuring that drinks flowed freely all night, which was particularly important for maintaining that age old tradition of drinking out of the trophies…
