New Year, New TBD: Welcoming Castelli to the Family
New Year. New TBD.
A new year is always a special time. For most, it’s a time to restart. To leave 2019 and all of its characters, events, highs and lows behind, and start brand new. Borrón y cuenta nueva. Une carte blanche. 2020 takes this to another level though. A new decade! An even bigger blank slate to work on, and all of the uncertainties associated with it. The entire world is both excited and scared at the same time.
For TBD, 2020 is not about erasing and starting new. We’re not here to forget the experiences that have taught us so much and taken us so far. We’re thankful for the years that have made us, but it’s time for us to take the next step. For TBD, 2020 is about taking everything we have accomplished, everything we have learned, everything we stand for, and everything we want our team and our sport to be, and taking it to another level. In order to accomplish that, we need strong partners. People and brands who share our beliefs, attitudes, and – you guessed it – determination for improving the future of cycling overall and racing’s role in it.
With that in mind, Castelli reached out to us last year to support our State of the Sport series on the Journal. For State of the Sport, we wrote about the explosive growth of gravel, the state of road racing, the Red Hook Crit hiatus, and innovative new events like the Reading Radsport Festival. This was just the start of our relationship, and it quickly became clear that Castelli shared our beliefs and approach to cycling.
So it is with tremendous excitement that we announce our partnership with Castelli Cycling. We will be proudly wearing the Castelli name while riding, racing, and serving as ambassadors for our community, in making cycling more inclusive, in analyzing trends and the hard truths about the state of cycling, and in pushing all of us towards a better future of bikes. We aim to do all of that and more, and we’re going to look so good doing it. Welcome to the family, Castelli Cycling. Let this be the start of an awesome future together.
Thanks in part to Castelli’s support, we’ll be attending a broader array of gravel events than ever before including marquee names like SBT_GRVL, Rasputitsa, and Oregon Trail Gravel Grinder. At the same time, the team will remain an active presence in the New York City road racing and cyclocross communities. All of these experiences will be featured on the To Be Determined Journal, alongside the important analysis, essays, and interviews that have generated national recognition.
To Be Determined Roster
In 2019, To Be Determined welcomed To Be Determined f/b Metropolitan Dental Care to our family, given the combined team a strong presence across both Men’s and Women’s racing on the East Coast. In 2020 our family will be growing again, this time through some very exciting geographic expansion. The end result will be a roster of approximately 30 riders that are active across disciplines and across the country. Stay tuned to the Journal for more in the coming weeks.
What we’ll be wearing in 2020
Jersey: Our primary jersey will be Castelli’s newly improved Aero Race Jersey. Available in both retail and custom formats, the Aero Race Jersey was developed for use in the World Tour with Team Ineos. While we won’t be climbing mountains in France (unless we plan another bike adventure), we have already trialed this jersey and could not be more impressed about the quality and performance (Men’s Aero Race Jersey / Women’s Aero Race Jersey). For those particularly warm days on the bike, we’ll also be using another Team Ineos favorite: the Castelli Climber’s Jersey.
Bibs: For bibshorts we’ll be wearing Castelli’s top-end offering, the Aero Race Bibshorts. Featuring a Progetto Air chamois that is unlike anything we have ever worn, we’re excited to put these in action across the massively varied terrain that we train and race on (Men’s Aero Race Bibshorts / Women’s Aero Race Bibshorts).
Skinsuits: Combine an Aero Race Jersey with the Aero Race Bibshorts and you effectively have the Castelli San Remo Skinsuit. It is a beautiful and high quality piece of kit that we’re likely to use in just about every road race we do this year. Hell, its comfortable enough that we’re probably going to use it on a good chunk of our gravel events as well (Men’s San Remo Skinsuit / Women’s San Remo Skinsuit).
Outerwear: Given the severity of winter weather that we experience in New York City, this is perhaps the product line that we’re most excited for. We’ll of course do a selection of custom vests and jackets, but we’re also going to lean heavily on the Castelli retail jacket line (Men’s / Women’s) that features some of the best jackets we have ever worn. Expect to see us in an array of Castelli jackets including the Alpha Ros Jacket, Alpha Ros Light Jacket, Perfetto Ros Jacket, and Idro Pro 2 Jacket.
NYC area Castelli dealers include: Toga Bikes, Paragon Sports, Bicycles NYC, Echelon Cycles, Strictly Bicycles and Piermont Bike.
