TBD Race Calendar: April 2018
With the calendar flipping to April it appears we survived the worst stretch of race weather largely unscathed (fingers crossed). Before we get to a busy month of racing in May (Orchard Beach, Bear Mountain, Somerville, etc) we have an equally busy month of racing in April on deck. It all kicks off this weekend a Central Park / Prospect Park double header as well as the Cherry Blossom Challenge AND the first Trooper Brinkerhoff races on Saturday. As always we keep an updated listing of every event on our radar on the TBD Race Calendar. If we're missing anything from the calendar just drop us a note and we'll make sure to get it added.
CRCA Club Series - it is another busy month of racing for our favorite race series in New York City as CRCA hosts the third and fourth races in the Club Series in addition to the New Racer Men's and Women's Clinics on April 7th. If you're curious what CRCA is all about there is plenty of related content in the TBD Journal archives under the CRCA tag.
Trooper David Brinkerhoff Memorial Race Series - there are some unfortunate schedule conflicts for the first of the two Trooper Brinkerhoff races but anyone who enjoys Belgian-like race conditions should be in Coxsackie on April 7th and April 14th for this challenging road race that usually brings down some tough competition from New England. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to take home at state championship at Bear Mountain to get in some early season road race miles.
Cherry Blossom Challenge - on April 7th the spring season of racing at Branch Brook Park in New Jersey comes to an end with the hotly contested Cherry Blossom Challenge. We've done the CRCA-Cherry Blossom double header several times and it's a sure fire way to put your legs to the test. If the weather cooperates for this weekend we'll likely be doing the double again.
Rasputitsa Gravel Race - by now anyone familiar with the To Be Determined Journal probably knows about our love affair with Rasputitsa. It is quite possibly the only one day even we would willingly drive six hours each way to partake in. But as we wrote about last year in "How the Weekend Was Won" Rasputitsa is so much more than just a bike race - it's one of our favorite weekends of the entire year. Registration has long been sold out but put this one on your calendar for 2019.
Quabbin Reservoir Classic Road Race - the last weekend in April is a bit of a down one for New York City racing with a lone L&C race on the calendar. As such those inclined toward road racing will likely head North to Ware, MA for the Quabbin Reservoir Classic, a race that will always live in infamy for an edition several years ago that featured the absolute worst weather we have ever experienced on the bike. However when the weather cooperates it is a quite lovely race as our race report from a few years back detailed: Quabbin Reservoir Road Race.
Healthy & Happy Racing Thursday Night FBF - there has been a change of leadership for Thursday night racing at Floyd as Healthy & Happy Racing and Axis Team have taken charge of the series which now focuses a rotating field structure between Masters and Cat 1/2/3 - so if you're not a Master's make sure to double check the dates to insure you're eligible to race before bombing down Flatbush to the venue. Believe it or not the H&H Series kicks off early in just over one week!
Merrick Cycles Friday Criterium Series (???) - we pulled this one off the early NYSBRA race calendar but it doesn't yet seem to have appeared on Bikereg. If anyone knows if the Series is on for 2018, drop us a note!
Other honorable mentions go to the L&C 6 Days of Kissena track series that kicks off this weekend, the next races in the H2H mountain bike series and of course the Lime Rock Cycling Grand Prix in northwest Connecticut.
