TWTW: Warm Weather, Heavy Lifting and Birthday Celebrations
January in New York City has been a study in contrasts. The first few weekends were frozen out with brutally cold weather but more recently conditions have been ripe for weekend team rides. With temperatures once again pushing fifty degrees this past Saturday our numbers swelled to a dozen or so riders as we headed north from the City. This early in the season we are still working out the off-season kinks in paceline technique and we once again encountered a few mechanicals but it is hard to complain too much with blue skies, warm weather, and big crew rolling together in the dead of winter.
Meanwhile A different form of competition
While most of the squad was on the road Saturday morning our resident strong man, Corey, was polishing off a number of PR's at the Revolution Powerlifting North American Championships in Newark, NJ. For those keeping score at home, his final tally: Squat 445 lbs, Bench 295 lbs, and Deadlift 505 lbs. Now we just have to get Corey back focused on the bike!
Birthday Celebrations
Whether it was spent lifting weights or riding bikes much of the team snuck in afternoon naps before regrouping to spend the evening celebrating Roger's 41st Birthday. With Sunday largely rained out this was essentially the finale of a pretty terrific weekend on and off the bike for the squad.
Though kudos to our friends at CityMD Women's Racing for showing a bit more determination and getting out on a moist Sunday afternoon:
