Team Health Warrior at Be the Match Run Walk
In addition to our on the bike charitable activities such as ERRACE and the Tour of the Litchfield Hills where we have raised over $20,000 for cancer treatment, Team Health Warrior p/b RK&O is committed to working within the community off the bike as well. It's all part of our focus on having a positive impact throughout the year. A few weekends ago, with the help of Health Warrior, the team manned a tent and provided some much need chia bar nourishment to the Be the Match Walk NYC on Roosevelt Island. Be the Match is operated by the National Marrow Donor Program which manages the largest and most diverse bone marrow registry in the world. The registry attempts to provide life saving bone marrow matches for blood cancer patients.
Runners and walkers raised money and participated in either a 5K or 1K event. And perhaps most importantly, participants were encouraged to spend 5 minutes registering their marrow with the organization, a first step in potentially helping save the life of someone with blood cancer. While he skipped the running aspect of the event, the team's own Matthew Vandivort and his wife Lisa were among the new available donors at the event.
Overall it was a great event with high energy throughout. It was an honor to be able to support a great cause and we'll definitely be back again next year with our friends from Health Warrior.
